Pearl Lam Projects Launches in Hong Kong with a major solo show by Chinese artist Qiu Anxiong

Hong Kong, 20 March 2026: Pearl Lam announces the launch of Pearl Lam Projects, a new programme of off-site exhibitions and artistic collaborations.

Operating internationally, the initiative builds on the gallery’s permanent space in Shanghai while expanding its year-round programme through off-site presentations in cities including Hong Kong. In response to the evolving art market, Pearl Lam Projects introduces a more agile and outward-facing approach to exhibition-making.

Developed as a project-led platform, Pearl Lam Projects supports artists in realising more ambitious and site-specific work, while continuing the gallery’s commitment to cross-cultural exchange.

The programme will debut with Qiu Anxiong: Bearing the Unseen in Hong Kong, on view from 23 March to 30 May 2026, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong.

Pearl Lam Projects will occupy three floors on Wyndham Street in Central, Hong Kong, for its debut exhibition.

Shanghai-based Chinese artist Qiu Anxiong has, over the past two decades, developed a distinctive practice that moves between painting, animation, installation, and time-based media. Guided by the aesthetics of Chinese ink painting and rooted in classical philosophy, his work explores what he describes as “modernity in flux,” a condition shaped by instability, mutation, and moral ambiguity.

In Bearing the Unseen, Anxiong examines humanity’s relationship with nature at a time when technological advancement increasingly blurs the boundaries between the real and the artificial. Drawing on sources including the Classic of Mountains and Seas and the philosophy of Zhuangzi, the exhibition unfolds through dystopian landscapes inhabited by displaced animals, hybrid forms, and disoriented human figures. Cities, surveillance systems, and digital infrastructures replace traditional natural motifs, reflecting the conditions of contemporary life.

Spanning painting, animation, and video, the presentation creates an immersive environment that invites viewers to reconsider anthropocentric perspectives and to imagine new forms of coexistence between humans, animals, and machines.
Pearl Lam, Founder, Pearl Lam Projects, said: “Pearl Lam Projects was created to give our artists a more flexible and expansive platform beyond the traditional gallery space. It allows us to realise ambitious, context-driven exhibitions across different cities, and to continue fostering meaningful dialogue between cultures, disciplines, and audiences.”
