Patrice Butler (B. 1963)

Patrice Butler was trained as an architect at Kingston Polytechnic and at the Architectural Association, a powerhouse of the avant-garde in London in the late 1980’s under Nigel Coates and Daniel Weil.

Architect, Patrice Butler yet first focused on a collection of chandeliers, candelabra and lamps, and embarked on projects with designers and craftsmen in the fashion industry. From jewelers to embroiderers this collaboration with the crafts reaffirmed an obsession with both quality of idea and the use of material. In 1992 he created the well-known line of sconces and chandeliers entitled “Saphir”, for the crystal manufacturer Baccarat.

In 1993 Patrice Butler’s work took him to The Far East where he crossed back to architecture and interior design. He created a new image for the auction house Christie’s Hong Kong as well as designing interiors for illustrious clients such as the actress Michelle Yeoh. One of his most important project to date was the architectural and interior design of the G’s Club in Shanghai.

As a designer Butler’s aim is to create a polyvalent Design embracing a complex but iconographic vision from hi-tech graphics to a Futurist “Chinoiserie”. He is at the forefront of the today designers who are creating a new decorative language incorporating all the multi-cultured complexity of the modern worlds’ diversity and contradictions.
